Grieving the Loss of a child on Mother’s Day? Mother’s Day commercials are airing beautiful, picture-perfect mother and child relationships & interactions that are simply not always realistic. If you have stumbled across this page, you are likely in the same boat as me, and were seeking some sort of comfort. Whatever your unique situation is on this day, find a reason to smile, and seek peace in knowing that you are not alone.

Let’s face it – Mother’s Day is a profitable holiday,  so if companies advertised the reality of how much pain Mother’s Day can have on grieving moms, they probably wouldn’t profit much off of it. That may be why we are forgotten on this day. Why? Well, your child isn’t around to spend time with you by taking you to to brunch or to buy you overpriced flowers, cards and candy. That is the only explanation, right?

This post is dedicated to my beautiful son Jaxon

Grieving the Loss of a Child: Where are the Relevant Greeting Cards?

I don’t know about you but when is the last time you have seen Mother’s Day greeting cards at your local store? Or better yet, when was the last time you received a Mother’s Day card since your child’s death?

Sometimes it feels like society doesn’t consider us to be moms anymore and that cuts me to the core, as I am sure it also does you.

I got to celebrate Mother’s Day with my child alive once and only once, and it was an unforgettable day. I remember being out with my newborn son Jaxon on a beautiful Texas day.  We went shopping together and a little boy came up to me, saw that I had a new baby and said “Happy Mother’s Day!”. I remember filling up with joy and complete bliss. I felt so proud of my son whom I adored more than anything imaginable. 2 weeks later he passed away in a car crash and ever since, Mother’s Day has been a heartbreaking day each year.

Poem for Mom’s Grieving the Loss of a Child

I decided to write a poem in honor of the forgotten moms who also feel empty on Mother’s Day. This poem is directed to my son, but anyone who has lost a child can relate. If you can relate to this poem, I am so sorry, but I hope it comforts you to know that you are not alone.

I’m Still A Mother” by Crystal Eve Kelley

My sweet, precious child, who is no longer here,

I miss you so much, wish you were here.

Even though you are gone, and I am alone

I ‘m still a mother, even If it’s not known.

My sweet precious child, today is the day,

When mothers get kisses and a bouquet,

No Mother’s Day cards, or kiss on the cheek,

But I’m still a mother, even if they critique

My sweet, precious child, you make me complete.

Memories of you, so priceless, so sweet.

Since you’re not here, we cannot laugh and play.

But I’m still a mother, even when they downplay.

My sweet, precious child, I want you to know,

I still have the clothes you will never outgrow.

Yes my arms are empty, no toys on the floor

But I’m still a mother, even when they ignore.

Oh, sweet, precious child, I wish you could see

How good of a mommy that I would be.

But, sweet, precious child, even though were apart,

Please know that I love you with all of my heart.

Relatable Quotes

It can be easy to forget that the intensity of pain you are feeling is also being felt by so many mother’s out there. These quotes are dreadful to have to relate to, but know you aren’t alone. 💙

This one really gets to me personally for some reason…

Conclusion

If you are reading this and know any grieving mothers, please try to think of ways to make them cry happy tears instead of sad ones this Mother’s Day. Although we are often forgotten on this day, there are things you can get and do for those who are mothers to those no longer on Earth – but remember, we are still mothers and any recognition means the world to us.

The most precious jewels you’ll ever have around your neck are the arms of your children.” – Unknown
